Reports that Chelsea are on the brink of finalising a deal for Kai Havertz are “nonsense”, according to Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller.

The Blues are in talks with the Bundesliga club over a deal that could be worth in the region of £90 million.

And the latest updates have suggested a fee initially worth £72m, with a further £18m of add-ons, has been agreed.

But Voller has been quick to dismiss the news, despite the 21-year-old eager to join Frank Lampard’s side in the Premier League.

“This is nonsense,” Voller told SID in Germany after the latest speculation.

Chelsea have been busy already in the market, completing deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for an estimated £83.7m combined.

There could be much more to come for Lampard, too, with talks ongoing to sign Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva to bolster the side’s Achilles heel last season at the back.

The Brazilian centre-back confirmed he will leave Paris Saint-Germain following the Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.

A two-year deal is expected to be finalised in the coming days before completing a free transfer after his contract expired.

While Chilwell would cost in the region of £50m, though there are some concerns about an existing heel injury, with checks expected before a deal can be completed.
