Chelsea will demand £80million for out-of-sorts winger Eden Hazard, despite his struggles to rediscover last season’s form this term.

The 25-year-old has failed to score in 27 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side, his last goal coming on the day they clinched the league title at home to Crystal Palace last May.

The club do not wish to move Hazard on yet but, according to The Sun, owner Roman Abramovich will reluctantly listen to offers if they are in a similar region to the world record £86million transfer fee.

The Belgian, who was voted the PFA Player of the Year and won the Football Writers’ award last season, has seen his attempts to recapture his form scuppered by injury in recent weeks.

Interim head coach Guus Hiddink nevertheless believes Hazard can play a key part in Chelsea’s run-in, as the club looks to make the best of nightmarish season.

Real Madrid have been consistently linked with the winger and are believed to be willing to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu despite his downturn in form.

The Spanish giants are one of the few clubs that could match or exceed the current world transfer record, having set it themselves with the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Real were recently suspended from signing players during the next two transfer windows, due to irregularities in international transfers involving minors.

The club have now submitted an appeal against this ban and president Florentino Perez hopes to see it overturned.

“We are convinced that everything about this sanction is wrong,” he said.

“It is absurd to think that Real Madrid will be punished over a child protection issue, when children have always been a priority for us.

“We will not sign anyone this winter, but that has nothing to do with punishment. It is because we have the best players and the best coach.”
