In Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could only managed a third place finish in a trophy-less season.

Now with a couple of high-profile signings already, the Blues will be hoping to mount a serious title challenge, do well in the cups and compete in the Champions League too.

COMPLETED TRANSFERS

Cesc Fabregas - £30m from Barcelona

The former Arsenal midfielder’s stunning move from Barcelona could be just what Chelsea need. With club legend Frank Lampard off to Australia or the USA, Fabregas will become the main man in the middle of the park. Whether he plays deep next to Nemanja Matic or in a more advanced role, Chelsea’s attackers will benefit from having someone with the vision of the Spaniard.

Diego Costa - £32m from Atletico Madrid

Chelsea’s misfiring trio of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba combined for just 19 goals last season – Diego Costa scored 27 all by himself. Though he was injured towards the end of the season and struggled at the World Cup, Costa proved last term he is one of the world’s best in front of goal. The Blues have not had anyone score 20 Premier League goals since they won the Double in 2010 (Didier Drogba scored 29).

Mario Pasalic - Undisclosed from Hadjuk Split

The teenager has only had one season in senior football but was so impressive in Croatia he almost made Niko Kovac’s World Cup squad. The 19-year-old has an eye for goal notching 11, along with five assists, as the club came third.

Felipe Luis - £15.8m from Atletico Madrid

The left-back signed a three-year deal after agreeing a move from the La Liga champions. The 28-year-old arrived to cover the departure of Ashley Cole.

Didier Drogba - Free from Galatasaray

Despite having left the club on perhaps the perfect note - scoring the winning penalty in a Champions League final - Drogba opted to return. He signed a one-year deal having been unable to resist the temptation to link up with Jose Mourinho once more.

Loic Remy - £10.5m from Queens Park Rangers

After Fernando Torres ended his hellish stay at Stamford Bridge with a loan move to AC Milan, Jose Mourinho's squad looked light up front with just Costa and Drogba. The Frenchman was Newcastle's best player last season, scoring 14 Premier League goals - he should provide a perfect second choice for Chelsea, at a reasonable price.
