Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Blues signed Eden Hazard from French club Lille in 2012 for £32.5million. Or, so we thought. In fact, it turns out that Chelsea paid just £28million for the forward, according to Belgian outlet Le Soir.
On top of this, the source has revealed just how much money the Chelsea playmaker really makes. When he was named PFA Premier League Player of the Year in 2015, it has been exposed that he earned a substantial £2million.
This goes on top of his extravagant wage at Stamford Bridge, which is around £200,000-a-week.
Following the 2015 campaign, Hazard appeared to go off the boil and was failing to live up to the reputation of Player of the Year. As a result, this season saw the exit of Jose Mourinho and the Blues finish the season at a rather drab 10th position in the Premier League table.
Both Hazard and Chelsea appear to have reactivated their fine form this season – which can be of no coincidence. He’s bagged eight goals so far in 17 appearances, helping his side climb to the top of the table.
He is an influential player, with the ability to make the singlehandedly change a game. Not bad for £28million.
