From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After allowing more fringe squad members to leave Stamford Bridge temporarily on deadline day, Chelsea now have a total of 38 players out on loan.
Matt Miazga, Lucas Piazon and Christian Atsu are among the latest to shipped out – for now, at least – as the club’s voracious policy of hoarding young talent continues apace.
It is not only the youngsters who are sent packing, however. Juan Cuadrado, a £23.3m signing from Fiorentina only eighteen months ago, has been sent on a second loan spell to Juventus.
This time around, the Colombia international is scheduled to spend three years in Turin until the expiration of his contract with Chelsea.
Patrick Bamford, who has now joined Burnley for his sixth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, famously revealed that all of Chelsea’s loaned out players have a WhatsApp group.
"The loan department set it up,” he said last year. “Sometimes it drains your battery when everyone is messaging each other.”
So, who’s in Chelsea’s own little expeditionary force of the not-quite-good-enough, whose data charges must be through the roof?
