Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lukaku has been the subject of transfer interest all summer after an impressive season on loan at Everton last year.
The 21-year-old scored 15 Premier League goals for Roberto Martinez's team, as they mounted a charge for the fourth Champions League spot.
With the arrival of Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge Lukaku is unlikely to get the first team football he so clearly craves.
Earlier this summer he said he wanted to play: "where the most ambition is and where is the best place for me to do develop as a young player".
He has been linked with a number of clubs with Everton and Atletico Madrid seeming the most likley destinations.
However, he has now changed his Twitter bio to say he is a player for Chelsea FC - it previously had no mention of the club.
Belgian team-mate Thibaut Courtois also added Chelsea to his Twitter bio and thanked Atletico and their fans for the last three years.
It is unclear whether Courtois will replace long-serving Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal, or if he will have to play a reserve role in the cup competitions.
Courtois had also been mooted to make a return to Atletico Madrid, where he has played on loan for the last three seasons.
"Thanks to Atletico Madrid and all his fans for these three beautiful years," was the message posted on his official Facebook page.
Ryan Bertrand, who is being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, has removed all mention of the club on his social media accounts.
