From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Charlie Adam has thanked Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish for showing faith in him after Blackpool rejected the Reds' initial advances for the player in January.

Adam admitted it was a "tough" period for him during the winter transfer window when the Seasiders decided to resist Liverpool's approach and hold onto a player they saw as vital to their hopes of staying in the Barclays Premier League.

Blackpool were ultimately relegated on the final day of last season, and after Liverpool renewed their interest in the former Rangers man, a deal was finally completed last week. Adam is now looking forward to his opportunity at Anfield.

The 25-year-old, who is part of Liverpool's squad for the two-match tour of the Far East, said: "I'm delighted to eventually be here. Obviously it was tough in January with the decisions that were made and I respected Blackpool in that and I have now been able to come here and join a wonderful club, a massive club that is well known all over the world.

"Obviously I'd like to thank the manager for bringing me here and it is a step in my career I'm looking forward to.

"I want to learn and there are some of the best players in the world at this club so if I can learn from them I am going to improve as a player. That is my aim."

The Scotland international joined Dalglish at a press conference in China and the Liverpool boss again refused to be drawn on any potential transfer activity in the coming days.

"We don't talk about other people's players and we certainly don't talk about our own players; where they are going or if they are staying or whatever," he said.

"If you trust the profession that you work for then you can get your information from the newspapers if you want to get it, but for us I don't think it is the proper way to be respectful to anybody else to talk about players other clubs have that we don't," he said.
