Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Burnley gained automatic promotion to the Premier League last season after finishing second behind Leicester in the Championship.
Their task this season will obviously be to remain in the top flight. They had just one year in the Premier League in the 2009/10 season and will be hoping for a longer stay this time around.
COMPLETED TRANSFERS
Lukas Jutkiewicz - £2.5m from Middlesbrough
After playing in the Championship since leaving Everton in 2010, Jutkiewicz gets his chance to play in the top flight again. He played just one game for the Toffees in the Premier League but now Sean Dyche has spent a considerable sum to try and get goals in the season ahead. He will be important to Burnley's chances of staying up.
Michael Kightly - Undisclosed from Stoke
The 28-year-old made his loan signing permanent this summer after a successful spell at Turf Moor last year. The winger left Stoke after failing to get in their starting line-up instigating the loan-move last summer. Kightly is a product of Tottenham's youth system and scored five league goals last season.
Marvin Sordell - Free from Bolton
Having impressed on loan at Charlton last season, Burnley have snapped up the English striker from Bolton. Sordell, 23, has 14 caps for England's Under 21s and played for Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympic games.
Matt Gilks - Free from Blackpool
Dyche has bolstered his goalkeeper options with Blackpool's number one from last term. Gilks played 176 league games for Rochdale and 182 league games for Blackpool in his career showing he is a club man and ever reliable.
Matt Taylor - Free from West Ham
Taylor has played consistently in the top flight since 2002 and now will hope to do the same at his new club. The 32-year-old failed to score in 20 league games for the Hammers last season but was deployed in a deeper role at times. He has made considerable amounts of appearances for every club he has played for.
Steven Reid - Free from West Brom
The defender ended his four year spell with the Baggies after signing for Burnley on a free. Typically a right-back but can play in the centre, Reid has had good stints with Millwall and Blackburn in the past.
Stephen Ward - Undisclosed from Wolves
Makes the jump from League One Wolves but Ward has plenty of Premier League and international experience at left-back, and spent last season in the Championship with Brighton. Has also played in midfield and even up front.
