From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Bryan Robson has urged David De Gea to take a leaf out of Cristiano Ronaldo's book and stay at Manchester United for one more campaign.
Ronaldo did the same thing despite wanting to leave for Real Madrid in 2008, Alex Ferguson persuading him to stay one more season before leaving.
Robson, perhaps optimistically, thinks De Gea should do a similar thing and reclaim his no. 1 shirt at United.
“You have to be a professional about it,” said Robson. “He’s under contract at the moment but it’s like the Ronaldo situation. The club weren’t prepared to release him for another year and he had to get his head round it.
“Ronaldo went about it in a professional way, had a great season for us then got what he said was a dream move. If that’s the case and that’s what David has to do, then that’s what David has to do.
“He’s a world-class goalkeeper and I can’t see him having any problems fitting into the team again and performing like he can perform.
“He’s a professional and he will have to get on with the job whichever way it goes.”
United reportedly still insist they will only sell De Gea this transfer window if Real offer a £35m fee, or agree to a Sergio Ramos swap deal.
