Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Blackburn have completed the loan signing of Anthony Modeste from Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old forward, who has represented France at under-21 level, has joined Rovers until the end of the season.
Rovers are still waiting for international clearance to enable Modeste to be considered for tomorrow's Barclays Premier League match at Everton.
Modeste joined Bordeaux from Nice in the summer of 2010, having impressed in a loan spell with second-tier Angers prior to making the move to Bordeaux.
He struck 10 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games in the 2010-11 campaign for Les Girondins and has scored three in 15 appearances during the current season.
"He's an attacking player who very much likes to play on the shoulder of central defenders," Rovers boss Steve Kean told Blackburn Rovers TV.
"He's got pace, he's got power, and he is technically very good. He can get a goal and he can link the play, so I think he's an exciting player. Like most French players he has got good technical ability and he can play with his head up.
"He knows Steven Nzonzi very well, and Steven can help settle him in. If we can get (the international clearance) done, there is no reason why he can't be involved this weekend."
