From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed his interest in signing Manchester City full-back Wayne Bridge on loan.
Any move could happen sooner rather than later now Pablo Zabaleta has won his appeal for his sending-off against Arsenal in City's 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium in mid-week.
Houllier has already signed a new right-back in on-loan Tottenham defender Kyle Walker.
Now the axing of Stephen Warnock after a poor run of form has left him needing an experienced left-back - and Bridge would fit the bill.
Houllier confirmed: "There has been dialogue (regarding Bridge).
"But it is true we have been talking to them."
Houllier is also being linked with a move for Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun.
He also confirmed West Brom's interest in signing John Carew who is still battling to gain full fitness.
But the three-game ban facing Emile Heskey for his red card against Sunderland means any moves in that direction would also have to be put on hold.
Houllier said: "I know at some stage there were talks with West Brom. I don't know where it will lead to.
"But to me Carew is an Aston Villa player and, as soon as he is available and fit, I will be delighted to have him in the squad and to play."
