The Chilean forward is again the subject of interest from Manchester City who have opened negotiations with Arsenal over a cut-price January deal. While Wenger insisted at his press conference this morning that no clubs have been in contact over Sanchez, and that the situation was “very quiet”, he did say that he does not know yet if Sanchez will play at Stamford Bridge.
“I have not decided yet,” Wenger said when asked about Sanchez featuring. “That will be decided today or tomorrow morning.” Wenger did confirm that Sanchez remains in contention to play.
Wenger did not want to go into any detail about Sanchez’s potential move to City but did not say that he expects to keep Sanchez this transfer window. “I expect nothing,” Wenger said. “I am focused on tomorrow’s game. When solicitations happen, you respond to it. At the moment, it’s very quiet.”
When asked whether the uncertainly over Sanchez was affecting the team, Wenger gave his usual answer that all players must be professional in all circumstances.
“What is the most important is to be professional, to perform no matter what the environment is,” he said.
“That’s why I believe that it does not have a big influence on your performance nor the performance of the team. It’s part of our job to deal with that.”
