From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Arsenal may well have finally found another defensive midfielder to replace the injured Francis Coquelin but Arsene Wenger's transfer business is not yet done, if the gossip columns are to be believed.

There are couple of forwards, a striker and even another defensive midfielder on the way to north London it seems.

Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko is again in the news with the Gunners in the race to sign the 26-year-old along with a number of clubs around Europe including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Everton.

Transfermarketweb (the English version of Tuttomercato web, maybe?) report that the Gunners will make an offer soon for Yarmolenko. However, the deal is more likely to take place in the summer when bidding could start at £20million.

Granit Xhaka is again linked to the north London club - although Liverpool will rival them for the signature of the German.

Xhaka, 23, has said that it is a "childhood dream" to play in the Premier League, while Borussia Monchengladbach chief Max Erbel admitted that "in the summer perhaps", Xhaka will leave the club.

He is not likely to come cheap, with various reports stating he will cost around £37m.

Former Arsenal player Luis Boa Morte, a coach at Sporting Lisbon, is said to be doing a bit of scouting on the side, if a report in Portugal is to be believed.

Noticias Ao Minuto report that the former Gunners, Fulham and West Ham winger watched 19-year-old Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes.

Billed, of course, as the next Cristiano Ronaldo, Chelsea and Manchester United have also had the wonderkid watched by scouts.

Not content with just being linked to one Watford striker, Troy Deeney, it is now Odion Ighalo linked to the Emirates. This time it's the Daily Mirror who state that Arsenal, along with rivals Chelsea, are interested.

Nolito is again linked, the 29-year-old Celta Vigo forward's name has constantly popped up, but his age and Celta's high asking price (£12m release clause) are stumbling blocks.

Fan favourite Nacho Monreal signed a new three-year contract to keep the left back at the club until 2020 on Wednesday.

Sky Sports Italia report that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could spend another season on loan at Roma, where he is impressing.

The 23-year-old is currently first choice in the Italian capital but Roma have also been linked to another goalkeeper, Brazilian Alisson from Internacional.
