Arsenal are ready to enter the race for Germany international Mats Hummels, according to reports.

The Borussia Dortmund defender has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League, most notably with Manchester United.

The centre-back has impressed in the Bundesliga and was a stand-out player at the World Cup as Germany won the tournament.

With United in dire need of defensive reinforcements Hummels was repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer. The speculation is understood to have contributed to Dortmund installing the 25-year-old as club captain.

However, despite the club insisting Hummels will not be leaving and the player himself saying he is "100 per cent" happy at his current club, speculation continues.

According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are ready to make a £32m bid for the centre-back as Arsene Wenger looks to sure up his defence.

Whilst Calum Chambers was signed over the summer, more responsibility than expected has been placed on the 19-year-old, meaning reinforcements would be welcomed at the Emirates.
