Arsenal have completed the signing of striker Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna in a £17m deal, the club have announced.

Lucas arrives as Arsenal’s fourth new signing of the summer, and after passing a medical in London last week, he has agreed a long-term contract subject to the move being ratified by the Premier League.

Speaking to www.arsenal.com, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year.”

Lucas will provide competition for Olivier Giroud, with the French striker nearing a return to full fitness after failing to appear in the season-opening defeat by Liverpool and Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Watford. Giroud came in for criticism last season as Arsenal fell short of challenging Leicester City for the title, and in Lucas Arsenal have landed a striker who scored 19 goals in all competitions last season.
