The French international is thought to be available for around £10m, with Arsenal previously understood to be favourites for his signature.
However now the Liverpool Echo claim that Brendan Rodgers' side have made an approach to QPR for the forward.
The Reds are also reportedly interested in bringing in Swansea City striker Wifried Bony as they try and compensate for the loss of the outgoing Luis Suarez.
However a deal for French international Remy would give them even more potency up front.
Remy scored 14 goals in 27 matches for Newcastle last season and the club are reportedly hopeful that he may decide to extend his stay with them.
