Celtic boss Neil Lennon has said that a deal with Arsenal for full-back Kieran Tierney “is not happening” as he expressed his delight at being able to keep hold of the youngster.

Arsenal have seen two bids for Tierney rejected, with Celtic demanding that their £25m valuation be paid in full.

The Gunners’ bids fell below this figure and some of their proposed add-ons were dependent on the club reaching the Champions League, something Celitc were uneasy with.

It’s not all doom and gloom though. The norther Londoners are closing in on the double capture of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos and William Saliba of St Etienne.

It’s understood the Europa League finalists could announce one of their latest recruits on Wednesday evening having landed from their pre-season tour of the United States earlier in the day.

Ceballos is due to sign on a season-long loan agreement, although Arsenal head coach Unai Emery had suggested the cruciate knee injury suffered by Real’s Marco Asensio in a friendly win over the Gunners on Tuesday could have scuppered the deal.

Saliba, an 18-year-old defender, is expected to join from Ligue 1 but then return to Saint-Etienne on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.

With the two bids for Tierney turned down and a move for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha seemingly dead in the water, Arsenal fans will be pleased to see further arrivals with teenage striker Gabriel Martinelli the only summer addition thus far.

Elsewhere, Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe will leave the club on loan this summer, but a decision as to where he will play next season will not be finalised until the highly touted teenager has recovered from injury.

Wolfsburg are the latest Bundesliga club to enquire about taking the 18-year-old on loan, who made a positive impression in Germany with RB Leipzig, despite being limited to 28 minutes of playing time due to injury.

Leipzig remain interested in Smith Rowe returning for another year, as widely reported towards the end of last season, while a number of Premier League and Championship clubs have expressed concrete interest to the club and the player’s representative.

A decision will be taken over his future within the next four weeks as Smith Rowe completes his rehabilitation with the first-team squad.

Brazilian winger Everton Soares has been identified as a potential target now that the chase for Zaha has reached its end.

The deal to sign Soares, who plays for Brazilian side Gremio, could be made possible due to Edu’s arrival.

The first signing to arrive since Edu joined was Martinelli and now Arsenal supporters are hoping he brings Soares to north London. One fan even asked him directly, to which he replied: “Let’s see, let’s see.”
