It is understood that Arsene Wenger wants to bring in someone to challenge Wojciech Szczesny in goal after losing both his back-ups at the end of the season.
The Arsenal boss has reportedly made a new goalkeeper and a replacement for outgoing right back Bacary Sagna his two top priorities in this summer's transfer window.
Caballero, despite missing out on Argentina's World Cup squad, is widely regarded as one of the best keepers in La Liga and has been very impressive for Malaga over the past two seasons.
Wenger has reportedly made enquiries about the player and is said to be prepared to offer a fee of around £7m for the 32-year-old.
However he may face competition from Atletico Madrid who look set to lose star keeper Thibault Courtois when his loan deal from Chelsea expires.
Arsenal are in need of goalkeeping reinforcements after losing Lukas Fabianski to Swansea and Emiliano Viviano who has returned to Palermo following his loan deal.
