ARSENAL ARRIVALS…

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Marco Reus after Bayern Munich ruled themselves out of the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund forward.

Reus looks set to leave Dortmund in the summer with a £20m release clause in his contract compounded by the club’s terrible form in the Bundesliga this season, and Arsenal are among the clubs looking to sign the talented 25-year-old. According to German newspaper Bild, the Gunners have been given a boost with the news that Bayern no longer want to sign Reus, leaving the door open to one of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to land the Germany international.

STATS MY BOY…

Arsene Wenger has revealed that it was the statistical figures of defender Gabriel Paulista that saw him make a £13.5m move for the Brazilian centre-back. The Gunners completed their signing of the former Villarreal defender earlier this week, with Joel Campbell heading to Spain on a loan move as part of the deal, and Wenger has expressed his delight in seeing Gabriel’s stats that prompted him to make the offer.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s match against Aston Villa, Wenger said: “Gabriel has good stats. We look at interceptions, defensive errors, winning tackles, committing to win the ball, set-piece receptions, these kind of things. But the most important thing is through the eye.”

NO MOVE FOR TIOTE

Arsenal have turned down the chance to sign Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote after the Ivory Coast midfielder was reportedly offered to the Gunners for £12m. According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have decided against making a move for the 28-year-old midfielder ahead of Monday night’s 11pm deadline. Despite Arsene Wenger’s desire to bring in a defensive midfielder, but Tiote doesn’t appear to be that man.
