ARSENAL ARRIVALS…

Arsenal may be on the verge of signing Brazil defender Gabriel Paulista after he was reported to have be left out of the squad to face Levante later tonight. Paulista has been linked with a move to the Premier League and admitted himself that he was in talks with the Gunners earlier this month. However, Manchester United have since entered the race for his signature, causing doubts over where he will be playing come the January transfer deadline.

A further development came in Spain with reports that the Gunners have agreed a £13.5m deal to sign Paulista. Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claims that talks the between the clubs have been successful, and a move will go through early next week.

Arsenal are also being linked with a shock move for Borussia Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz, with a £3.7m offer said to have been made this weekend, according to The Metro. The 26-year-old is seen as a utility man who can play in a number of positions, including both flanks in defence plus central midfield.

HEADING FOR THE EXIT…

Joel Campbell could be on his way back to Spain after reports on the continent claimed the Costa Rican World Cup star is on the verge of joining David Moyes’ Real Sociedad on a loan until the end of the season. Campbell has seen his first-team opportunities severely limited since returning from a loan spell with Olympiakos last season, and having previously spent time with Real Betis, will be no stranger to the La Liga.

MISSED OUT…

Building the Emirates Stadium meant Arsenal did not have enough money to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, it has been reported. The recently crowned Ballon d’Or winner joined Manchester United in 2003 for a fee in the region of £14m, but his agent Jorge Mendes has claimed that had Arsenal not shelled out the money on their new stadium, they would have been able to afford Ronaldo thanks to David Dein’s negotiation skills.

Mendes says in his new book The Key to Mendes: “There was a moment in which I really thought he was going to Arsenal. David Dein is a spectacular person but, with the construction of their stadium, they were left with very little money and it wasn't possible.'
