From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A selection of players that could be on their way to the Emirates this summer:

Gonzalo Higuain:

Higuain has been strongly linked to Arsenal as their main transfer target. It is also reported that a deal has been agreed between Real Madrid and Arsenal. He has scored 107 goals in 187 games at Madrid, and has 20 goals in 32 caps for Argentina. Arsenal prepared to break their transfer record and pay £22m for his services.

Lars Bender:

The German midfielder has made 108 appearances for Bayern Leverkusen. Arsenal had a £20m bid rejected but the Gunners could return with a bigger offer as Arsene Wenger looks to build a squad which will compete for the league next season.

Ashley Williams:

The strong centre back is rated at £10m by Swansea. Arsenal are reportedly favourites to sign the Welsh defender but there are reports that Liverpool are in the race for his services too. He has made 214 appearances for Swansea and has 41 caps for Wales.

Julio Cesar:

The Brazilian goalkeeper who was relegated with Queens Park Rangers last season is seeking a new club but wishes to remain in London. Arsenal are the contenders for his signature. He has over 200 appearances for Inter Milan and 74 international caps would make him one the most experienced members of the current Arsenal squad.

Wayne Rooney:

Rooney is set to hold talks with Manchester United over his future. He has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain. Rooney has scored 141 goals for United in 278 appearances. He also has 36 goals in 83 appearances for England. £20m is the reported figure needed to ensure sign Rooney.

Alen Halilovic & Tin Jedvaj:

Tottenham are in talks with Dinamo Zagreb over teenage talents Alen Halilovic and Tin Jedvaj, according to the Croatian club. Reports indicated that Spurs had acquired the stars for a deal worth up to £17m, although the north London club have yet to confirm this. Dinamo Zagreb's executive chairman Dravko Mamic has revealed in the Croatian media that Spurs are in negotiations over the two 17-year-olds. Yet Arsenal could join the race to sign the talented duo.

Steven Jovetic:

Jovetic has played 116 times scored 35 goals for Fiorentina and scored 10 times in 27 matches for his national team Montenegro. He is rated at around £20m but is likely to move to Juventus rather than Arsenal.

Marouane Fellaini:

Arsenal are interested in Fellaini’s services but it is widely reported that Everton have stated that he will not be leaving. If Fellaini is to move then his most likely destination is to follow David Moyes to Manchester United.

Geoffrey Kondogbia:

Kondogbia is a young French defensive midfielder. He has made 31 appearances for Sevilla last season but is yet to feature internationally. Wenger is looking for a strong holding player and Kondogbia would suit this, but Chelsea are currently in pole position to land the player.
