Arsenal sent a scout to Parkhead last night to monitor Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to reports.

The Gunners were heavily linked with the powerful Kenyan during the January transfer window, but a deal failed to materialise.

However, it's understood Arsene Wenger has made the 21-year-old one of his prime targets when the transfer window reopens in the summer and ordered a report on Wanyama who was in action during Celtic's 3-0 defeat to Juventus.

Since joining Celtic in 2011, Wanyama has shown steady progress and has been vital in the Scottish side's run to the last-16 of the Champions League.

The Gunners have failed to replace Alex Song, who left for Barcelona last summer, with Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey forced into the holding midfield role at the Emirates this season.
