Speaking during today's press conference to preview Sunday's game against Newcastle, Arsene Wenger revealed that talks with Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo are at an "advanced" stage.
The France Under-21 international is out of contract at the French club this summer, although due to his age - he's 20 - and that he was developed at the Ligue 2 side, Arsenal will have to pay compensation.
"We are advanced with him, but it is not done," said Wenger.
"I am very confident. He is a young striker who is promising, and has a big talent."
The tall striker is known for his speed and work-rate, although appears to be one for the future.
Arsenal fans will be hoping for arrivals capable of making a more immediate impact - and there have even been rumours of a move for disenchanted Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Wenger refused to be drawn on that subject today, telling reporters: "At the moment we have no interest in anybody, we have only one interest and that is of course, Sunday's game."
Asked if Arsenal could afford Rooney, the manager added: "That is not even a question at the moment. We have not gone into that."
It's understood that Wenger will have as much as £100m to spend on players this summer as he looks to make additions to his squad and once again challenge for the league title next season.
