Arsenal are hoping to complete the £32m transfer of Alexis Sanchez this week, according to reports.

Barcelona have reportedly accepted the offer for the Chile international, which would make him the Gunners second highest transfer, behind the £42m they paid for Mesut Ozil in September 2013.

Sanchez had been coveted by Liverpool, who wanted the player as part of Luis Suarez's transfer to Barcelona, however Sanchez has indicated that he does not want a move to Anfield, meaning Suarez's move to Barca will be a straight cash transfer, worth a reported £70m.

The Gunners main transfer target this summer is a striker, with Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo the only front men in Arsene Wenger's squad.

The 25-year-old Sanchez moved to Barcelona from Udinese for £20m in July 2011, and scored 39 goals in 88 league appearances for the Spanish giants.
