Newcastle United have turned down the chance to sign Alexandre Pato, according to reports.

The 26-year-old Corinthians striker has also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool in this transfer window, although Reds manager Jurgen Klopp ruled out a move.

Pato is best known for his time at AC Milan, winning the Serie A with the Italian club in 2011.

The 26-year-old has spent much of the last year on loan with Sao Paulo, scoring 19 goals in 59 appearances. Returning to Europe would present the Brazilian with the opportunity to break back into Dunga’s squad where he previously earned 17 caps, netting ten times, before falling out of favour.

A report in today's Chronicle states that the Magpies will opt against making an offer for the striker.

Newcastle have been busy in this transfer window already, signing Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea City for a reported £12m and Henri Saivet from Bordeuax for a reported £5m.
