Liverpool could yet be given a boost in their hunt to sign Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette after reports in France confirmed the talented 24-year-old is yet to agree a new contract with the Ligue 1 club.

Lacazette emerged as one of the brightest French talents coming through the ranks at the Stade de Gerland a few years ago, and enjoyed his best season to date courtesy of his 27 league goals in just 33 outings to help Lyon finish second behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

However, despite Lacazette’s contract running until June 2018, French newspaper L’Equipe reports that he could hand in a stunning transfer request to rock the club and try to force through a move to another European club.

Liverpool aren’t the only side interested in Lacazette though, with Champion League heavyweights Bayern Munich also monitoring his future along with PSG, who hope that the allure of remaining in France will appeal to Lacazette.

Liverpool are likely to strengthen further following last season’s struggles in attack, with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini all facing the exit door should the Reds find suitable destinations for the goal-shy trio. With Daniel Sturridge missing a large proportion of last season through injury, manager Brendan Rodgers has moved swiftly to address the struggles in front of goal, and has brought in Danny Ings from Burnley and Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim – the latter’s move set to cost up to £29m.

With Firmino likely to play behind the lead striker, Rodgers could look to launch a move for Lacazette this summer which will also give him options on the left of his attack. However, Lacazette will not come cheap, and it’s believed that Lyon will demand in excess of £28m for the France international.
