Liverpool supporters have not had too much to be excited about in recent weeks, what with their team’s profligacy in front of goal and terrible injury record.

However, the transfer window is a time of hope and when news broke this morning of Ian Ayre’s attempts to sign Shakthar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira, fans went into something of a frenzy.

Liverpool’s chief executive has previously ended up empty-handed when attempting to buy from Ukraine, having lost out on the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Yehven Konoplyanka when a deal seemed close in the past.

That’s not forgetting Willian, either, who looked on the verge of a move to Anfield until Tottenham Hotspur and then Chelsea blew the Merseyside club out the water.

Teixeira, who has scored 26 goals in 26 games across all competitions this season, is also being chased by the Blues but that, nor rumours of a dreaded hamstring injury, could dampen the spirits of Liverpool supporters too much.

Here’s the best of the Twitter reaction…
