Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Despite celebrating his 39th birthday tomorrow, Weir (right) has no plans to hang up his boots just yet, claiming the "pleasure outweighs the pain" most of the time.
Whether he will continue his career at Rangers remains to be seen, however, with Weir insisting he is not even thinking of contract talks while the SPL title and Scottish Cup remain up for grabs. He said: "I will keep playing as long as I can. I think I'm sensible enough to realise that. But the priority just now is to get to the end of the season and be successful."
Today's showdown with Celtic at Ibrox has been billed as the game which could decide the destination of the championship. "Both teams would agree that but they've got three tough games after it and, the way the season has been, there has been points dropped against other teams.
"I'm sure Celtic would agree that the team that wins the game, regardless if it's them or us, I don't think there is anything guaranteed after that."
The Celtic manager, Gordon Strachan, will have to do without suspended midfielder Scott Brown and could lose left-back Lee Naylor, who is struggling with a stomach muscle complaint.
Defender Darren O'Dea remains a doubt with a hamstring injury and with Mark Wilson also sidelined, Celtic have problems at the back.
