Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

John Sutton has joined the family dynasty in terrorising Scottish defences. The young striker netted his first goal for Dundee yesterday and it proved decisive in a fine derby at Tannadice.

John Sutton has joined the family dynasty in terrorising Scottish defences. The young striker netted his first goal for Dundee yesterday and it proved decisive in a fine derby at Tannadice.

Sutton, on a season's loan from Millwall, inflicted United's second home defeat in nine months - the last being at the hands of brother Chris's Celtic side - with a fine 47th minute goal.

The game turned on Steve Lovell's first-half penalty after David McCracken was harshly judged to have barged down Iain Anderson. Derek Soutar then produced fine saves from volleys by Barry Robson and Alan Archibald, and two minutes after the interval Dundee stretched their lead. Lovell robbed McCracken and sent over a low cross met by Sutton's outstretched right foot.

Soutar was finally beaten in injury time when Mark Wilson's fine corner was met by Archibald, whose glancing header found the roof of the net - but it was too little, too late.

Goals: Lovell (pen, 17) 0-1; Sutton (47) 0-2; Archibald (90) 1-2.
