The 33-year-old Scotland defender warmed up for the Euro 2000 qualifier against Bosnia tomorrow by training with the Ibroxyouth team on Saturday. He was not even on the bench when the Premier League leaders defeated Dundee 3-2 at Dens Park.
Hendry, a £4m signing from Blackburn 14 months ago, made his frustration clear yesterday. "I want to stress I have notasked Rangers for a transfer. Rangers have three vital Champions League games coming up and I don't want to rock the boat,"he said. "But I feel I am at the pinnacle of my career and I just want to play. It is such a shame because I was so happy when Isigned for Rangers. Then I went on to win three medals in my first season.
"I just feel sad because I don't have any future with Rangers. I'll be glad to join up with the Scotland squad because I need to playgames. I've been starved of football."
Rangers have already reportedly knocked back a swap deal involving the out-of-favour Sheffield Wednesday striker BenitoCarbone, although a move back to England still looks the likeliest solution to Hendry's troubles.
The Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson will miss Scotland's European Championship qualifier against Bosnia at Ibrox tomorrow.The 21-year-old suffered a knee injury in a challenge involving Dundee's Lee Wilkie on Saturday which saw the defender sent off.
Ferguson's club-mate, Neil McCann, will remain with the squad for the time being despite picking up ankle and knee injuriesplaying for Rangers. Scotland's manager, Craig Brown, said: "It is touch and go regarding McCann. We have to be very carefuland cannot afford to take a risk." After playing Bosnia, Scotland entertain Lithuania on Saturday.
In Saturday's other Premier League game, Aberdeen picked up their first point of the season but are still rooted to the bottom ofthe table after a 2-2 draw against their fellow strugglers, Hibernian, at Pittodrie.
