Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 33-year-old was free to find a new club after falling down the pecking order at Paris St-Germain in favour of France's World Cup back-up goalkeeper Mickael Landreau.
Letizi replaces the Dutchman Ronald Waterreus, who left Ibrox at the end of the season after failing to agree a new deal. He said that once Le Guen made his interest known, the decision to join Rangers was made easy. Letizi said: "It was very important for him [Le Guen] to ring me. He is French and he knows me and soon as I heard that I knew I wanted to sign.
"I now hope I can win things that he and this big club deserves."
Rangers youngster Chris Burke is confident Le Guen can bring success back to the Ibrox club. They ended last season empty-handed, and third in the Scottish Premier League, after one of the worst domestic campaigns in their history, a disappointing end to Alex McLeish's reign after four-and-a-half years at the club.
Le Guen guided Lyon to three consecutive French titles before taking a year-long break from football, during which time he reportedly attracted interest from clubs such as Real Madrid. Burke said: "He must be a very good manager and we're looking forward to working under him.
"It will be new for a few of the players and it will be a test but we are just going to have to accept it and look forward to the future and see what it brings."
