From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Leon Knight, of Brighton, and Yeovil's Kevin Gall will be looking to cap hectic weeks with more goals today - at Barnsley and Orient respectively - to maintain their places at the top of the Football League scoring table.
Knight, who has scored four times in two League matches, joined Brighton, the early pacesetters in the Second Division, on a permanent basis from Chelsea on Thursday. Chelsea received an undisclosed sum and will get another undisclosed sum if Brighton are promoted. There is also a sell-on clause to ensure a top-up for Chelsea's coffers in the event of him moving on.
Despite the Seagulls' flying start, their manager, Steve Coppell, has warned supporters that an immediate return to the First Division will not be easy. "The expectations of the fans does worry me," he said. "It's got to be borne in mind that we have five changes to the side that finished last season."
Gall, who has also scored four in two as League newcomers Yeovil moved to the top of the Third Division last weekend, had a busy week representing Wales. The former Newcastle academy scholar featured as Wales Under-21 lost 3-0 against Serbia and Montenegro on Tuesday night.
