Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

David Weir has urged Rangers not to dwell on the defeat at Hearts which knocked them off top spot in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday.

The veteran defender insists the Ibrox club must forget the Tynecastle match and look ahead to Wednesday's Champions League match against Stuttgart.

Rangers have been drawn in the so-called "group of death" with Lyon and Barcelona, as well as the German champions, and know victory in their opening match is essential before facing the Group E heavyweights.

Saturday's 4-2 mauling was hardly the ideal preparation but Weir said: "We need to get back playing, address it, and put the wrongs right. The game is gone. There are a lot of things we would like to change if we could but we can't. We've got to look to the future now."

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan admits his side's 5-0 demolition of Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Parkhead allowed him to give some respite to key players for tomorrow's Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.

The champions leap-frogged Rangers for the first time this season with two goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and one each from Massimo Donati and Shunsuke Nakamura, with a Phil McGuire own goal compounding the visitors' misery.

Dundee United moved into third place yesterday with a 2-0 win over St Mirren at Tannadice Park.
