Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Dundee United's weekend match against Rangers has been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Tannadice chairman Eddie Thompson.
Thompson died today after a long battle with cancer. Thompson, 67, lost his fight against prostate cancer in the early hours.
Scottish Premier League executive chairman Lex Gold described the death of Thompson as "a great loss to our game" and the SPL confirmed Saturday's match at Ibrox would be rescheduled for a later date.
Gold said: "At this time our thoughts are with those close to Eddie. We send our condolences to his wife Cath, children Stephen and Justine, their families and all at Dundee United.
"Eddie's incredible enthusiasm for Dundee United, the SPL and football in general made him an inspiration to many. He is a great loss to our game.
"On a personal level, I am pleased to have been able to work with Eddie and I will miss his support, encouragement and insight."
The SPL also confirmed there would be one minute of applause for Thompson before all other top-flight games in Scotland this weekend.
