From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sasa Papac insists Rangers have no intention of pushing the panic button ahead of next week's meeting with Celtic after dropping their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw at Aberdeen. And they could be bolstered by new signing, American midfielder Maurice Edu, who was granted a work permit on Friday. Rangers expect to complete the paperwork surrounding his £2.6m signing from Toronto in the coming days

David Weir's first half header was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time by Derek Young, before DaMarcus Beasley wrongly had a last-gasp winner disallowed for offside.

Papac is confident Walter Smith's men will lift themselves again ahead of the first Old Firm derby of the season.

"It's only the beginning," he pointed out. "After 38 games we will see who the winner is. Every Old Firm game is hard and you want to win every game.

"It doesn't matter where you are in the table, you still want to win. We are still hurting about this game – we aren't thinking about Celtic so much."

Aberdeen has not been a happy hunting ground in recent times for Rangers, who saw their SPL title hopes killed off there in the final day of last season.

Aberdeen had a difficult start to the season, losing to Inverness in their opening game, and manager Jimmy Calderwood was more than happy with a point. "The lads are getting better every week," he said.
