From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

West Brom are to hold further talks with former midfielder Zoltan Gera about a possible return to the Hawthorns, Press Association Sport understands.

Gera, who spent four years with the Baggies during his first spell, is out of contract at Fulham.

Albion held initial discussions with the Hungary international a fortnight ago and the 32-year-old is due to undergo a second round of negotiations later this week.

Gera made the switch to Craven Cottage during the summer of 2008 when he was signed by Roy Hodgson who is now in charge of West Brom.

Hodgson also remains keen on bringing in another free transfer target in midfielder David Vaughan.

He has been offered a new three-year contract by Blackpool but is keen to remain in the Premier League.

Albion insist reports they are happy to part company with left-back Nicky Shorey, linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, are wide of the mark.

But Shorey's deputy, Marek Cech, is expected to be allowed to leave the club.
