Young promises Villa adventure
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Luke Young believes Aston Villa's attacking midfield options means that they can adopt a positive approach when they attempt to end a 26-year period without a win against Manchester United at Old Trafford today.
Villa last triumphed away to United in 1983 and it is 14 seasons since they defeated Sir Alex Ferguson's team in a Premier League encounter – a 3-1 win at Villa Park in 1995.
But Young feels Villa's in-form players such as James Milner, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing can give them cause for optimism. The Villa full-back said: "You have Youngy, Downing and Milner all rotating at the moment, popping up here, there and everywhere. I don't think it would suit us to go anywhere and sit back with the attacking players that we've got.
"We are going there with as much confidence as we have had all season. Hopefully, we can go out there, play our own game and have a go at them. We won't go to Old Trafford and say, 'Right, for the first 15 to 20 minutes let's try to nullify this or that'."
Young is particularly keen for a Villa victory after being the player who was turned by Federico Macheda on his way to scoring a last-gasp winner in United's 3-2 victory at Old Trafford in April .
"Trust it to be one of those iconic goals that's going to be played over and over again," Young said. "It probably won them the League and there I am getting turned for it.
"It's one of those things. It was late in the game, and it won't be the last time I get turned for a goal; it's just part and parcel of being a defender. It was a hell of a match – we performed well but we still managed to lose."
