From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Dele Alli is the clear favourite to be named PFA Young Player of the Year after the six-man shortlist was announced.

The 20-year-old, who has helped fire Mauricio Pochettino's side to a title challenge, has scored eight goals and added nine assists in a brilliant debut season at Tottenham Hotspur.

He is currently the 1/8 favourite with BetVictor, ahead of Spurs team-mate and Premier League top scorer Harry Kane (5/1), who won this award last season and who is also nominated for the main prize.

Two Everton players - Romelu Lukaku (20/1) and Ross Barkley (25/1) - make the shortlist, despite the club's struggles this season and fan anger at manager Roberto Martinez.

England No 2 Jack Butland makes the cut after an outstanding season at Stoke City, which has been sadly cut short by injury. The final nominee is Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho (33/1).

The shortlist sees a couple of high-profile snubs.

Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial will likely consider himself unlucky not to be nominated, considering the pressure he has played under after a big-money move.

Hector Bellerin has been one of Arsenal's most consistent performers, while Christian Eriksen has again been excellent for Spurs.
