Manchester City have moved swiftly this season to tie down the futures of Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva in the form of five-year contracts, but it appears that Yaya Toure will not be offered the same deal.

In fact, it is reported the midfielder will not see a new contract of any length come his way as the 31-year-old still has three years to run on his current £220,000-a-week deal.

Toure endured a tumultuous summer that began with a dispute with his club over the infamous birthday cake snub, where reports that he was seeking an exit from City as a result of the incident quickly emerged.

The Ivory Coast international was also unable to stop his nation crashing out of the World Cup in the group stages, although he had to cope with the tragic loss of his brother Ibrahim Toure during the tournament.

But City manager Manuel Pellegrini has stressed that Toure is happy at the Etihad despite his unsettled summer, and claimed he remains an important part of the first team ahead of the new season.

“I spoke with Yaya and he’s very happy,” said Pellegrini. “I don’t know what happened in the summer.

“Some people talked about his position, but really at this moment, he doesn’t have any problems. It has passed, it doesn’t matter at this moment.

“Of course, he’s very important to us and I hope Yaya can repeat the season he had last season.”

Toure agreed his current deal just last season after he suggested he wanted to leave the club, and the belief was that part of his summer accusations were an attempt to get an improved offer from the club.

But while Toure looks set to be left waiting for any new offer, Edin Dzeko and Joe Hart look set to be the next first-team players to be offered extensions as City continue to secure the long-term future of the playing squad.

The club remains hopeful on signing James Milner to a new contract as well, although the England midfielder is holding out on talks as he waits to see whether he will see regular first-team action this season before making his decision.
