From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Ronaldo is set to complete a world record £80m move to Real from Manchester United this week, but Xavi believes that Barcelona are better off without him, describing the Portuguese winger as 'uncontrollable'.
"We have won more titles than we expected and, because we have done so well, we have been rewarded with three more competitions and that makes us very excited," the Spain international told Sport.
"We have a lot of desire to continue winning. This group has a strong mentality and why shouldn't we dream about winning the treble again? I already said it last year and we managed to obtain it.
"As for Ronaldo, I wouldn't want him here. At Barca, we do not have room for players who fill gossip magazines.
"We are hard workers and sportsmen but he, on the other hand, is uncontrollable."
Meanwhile, Xavi hopes Samuel Eto'o rejects Manchester City's overtures and opts to stay at the Camp Nou.
City are believed to have made a £25m offer for the Cameroon international and are reportedly willing to pay him a staggering £250,000-a-week wage.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta had revealed at the weekend that City had made a 'stratospheric offer' for the 28-year-old although Eto'o's agent, Josep Maria Mesalles, insists his client wants to stay at the Nou Camp.
Xavi told Sport: "We know that he is capable of and this season we have had so much from him, he is a vital player.
"I do not know what will happen, but if it was down to the players we would consider him to be the number one priority."
AC Milan are targeting Brazil striker Luis Fabiano, according to the player's agent.
The Rossoneri are currently being thwarted in their attempt to sign Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg and Jose Fuentes has said he is aware of interest in the player from the San Siro giants.
Milan's vice-president, Adriano Galliani, has already confirmed he may be looking to sign Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor, but the Sevilla striker is also thought to be attracting the attention of the club.
"I know about Milan and Galliani's interest, but I have not had any official contact with them. I have heard the news on the radio and in the papers, but there has not been any official request," Fuentes told Sky Sport Italia.
"Like Manchester United and Barcelona, Fabiano would join the Italian side. Any footballer would be happy to join such a major club. Milan are a major world club.
"At the moment he is a Sevilla player, but I cannot say that he will be there next season.
