From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Steve Morgan, the Wolverhampton Wanderers owner, is promising a repeat of his impassioned dressing-room address from the recent derby victory over West Bromwich when Mick McCarthy's side seek to clinch their Premier League survival against fellow strugglers Blackburn on Sunday.

Morgan, who bought the club in 2007 and bankrolled promotion two years later, spoke to the players just before their last game at Molineux when a 3-1 victory over Albion gave Wolves renewed hope of staying up. They followed that last Saturday by winning 3-1 at Sunderland which lifted them a point clear of the relegation places. A third consecutive win will guarantee safety and Morgan is prepared to venture into the dressing room again.

"The lads do not need me to tell them how important it is," he said, "but it's important for them to know we're all together and myself and the other directors are kicking every ball with them. It will just be to say 'we are all with you'."

Birmingham are a point worse off than Wolves and take on Tottenham at White Hart Lane knowing that even a win might not be enough to save them. Alex McLeish's side have picked up just one point from the last five games but veteran striker Kevin Phillips has urged the club's board to keep faith in the manager, who delivered the Carling Cup only three months ago.

"He has done a fantastic job. If we do manage to stay in the Premier League, it will be the best season that Birmingham have ever had," Phillips said.

"I think it's highly important we keep him. He is an experienced manager and he managed to get us up to the Premier League. If the worst comes to the worst, then there is no better man to be in charge to help us straight back into the Premier League."
