Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. While Winter Olympic fever may not have gripped the nation like the Summer Games in 2012, here are Southampton players Jose Fonte and Jay Rodriguez getting into spirit of Sochi, trying their hand at curling...sort of.
Britain has excelled in the event at the Games this year, Eve Muirhead's women's team winning bronze this morning after their 6-5 victory over Switzerland in the bronze medal match.
The men's team, led by David Murdoch, have also already secured at least a silver medal in the event, and face Canada on Friday afternoon in the final, hoping to seal gold.
Including tomorrow's guaranteed medal, Britain equalled their best-ever medal tally at a Winter Olympics, level withe the four won in Chamonix in 1924.
Fonte is known as a defensive rock for Southampton, but here he is acting as a stone in the dressing room, while Rodriguez usually starts on the wing, he's happy to play the sweeper here.
