From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Adrian: 8 out of 10
West Ham: Little more than a spectator in the first half. Rarely called into action but pulled off a double save to deny Kane and Alderweireld.
Michail Antonio: 8
Rifled home a superb header early on. Looks at home in a right wing back position and caused Spurs a world of problems.
James Collins: 7
Matched Kane in the air time and again. The Welshman displayed reletenless commitment. Withdrawn due to injury.
Angelo Ogbonna: 8
The Italian defender produced a defensive display of the calibre his countryman have long been known for.
Aaron Cresswell: 7
Bombed forward at every opportunity. Shackled Lamela and ensured Trippier was unable to get many crosses into the box.
Pedro Obiang: 7
Worked tireslessly in the engine room to ensure Spurs were unable to settle on the ball. Embodied the Hammers' work rate.
Mark Noble: 7
Let fly from long range and was unfortunate to see his strike, which was heading for the top corner, saved. A composed presence throughout.
Cheikh Kouyate: 7
Spurs struggled to get to grips with the midfielder's power in the centre of the park. A real handful for anyone he came up against.
Manuel Lanzini: 7
The Argentine was full of nice flicks and touches. He worked well up alongside Emenike but was anthing but reluctant to track back too.
Dimitri Payet: 7
The new darling of Upton Park sparkled under the lights. The Frenchman was a constant meance and looked dangerous every time he received the ball.
Emmanuel Emenike: 8
Ran the channels dilligently and battled for every ball. His work rate helped those further back follow suit as Spurs struggled to find a rhythm. Afforded a rousing reception when he was withdrawn.
Substitutes
Reece Oxford: 6
Thrown in at the deep end but coped in daunting circumstances. The youngster's reputation will go up another notch.
Andy Carroll: 6
Brought on to close the game out and made himself a nuisance against a tiring defence.
Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris: 5
Got a hand to Antonio's header but could not keep it out. A very jittery display from a man who is usually Tottenham's most reliably lieutenant.
Kieran Trippier: 6
Had the hardest task of all; marking Payet. The full-back pushed forward when he could but got little change out of Cresswell.
Toby Alderweireld: 6
Booked after being caught out by Payet and left with no alternative. Afforded little time on the ball and was not his usual composed self.
Kevin Wimmer: 5
With Alderweireld off colour next to him, the Austrian faltered and looked all at sea under pressure. Booked.
Ben Davies: 6
With Antonio threatening at every opportunity, the Welshman failed to threaten in the final third and was hassled into errors.
Eric Dier: 5
Appeared to look immobile against the Hammers' fluid midfield and struggled to be the calming influence he has represented for most of the campaign.
Ryan Mason: 6
Put himself about in a fiercely contested midfield battle but looked off the pace at times as an injury ravaged season appeared to catch up with him.
Nacer Chadli: 5
Ineffective. The Belgian struggled to have any kind of meaningful impact and it was no surprise to see him withdrawn on the hour mark.
Christian Eriksen: 6
The Belgian threatened from wide areas but West Ham gobbled up his delivery constantly.
Erik Lamela: 5
Not his day. Played on with a nasty head wound but rarely threatened.
Harry Kane: 5
Struggled to get into the game. Hardly got a sniff of goal due to West Ham's switch to a back three and wasted the few chances that did fall his way.
Substitutes
Dele Alli: 5
Brought on with half an hour left but failed to turn the tide. Spurs missed his presence and drive badly.
Heung-min Son: 5
Could not be accused of a lack of effort but did not make a meaningful impact.
