Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s a big game for…

Raheem Sterling: The most expensive, and controversial, transfer of the summer. Sterling will want to justify his enormous £49m transfer fee and in City’s fluid attacking system he may have just found a perfect fit. How he combines with Bacary Sagna (Pablo Zabaleta is still on leave after the Copa America) against the Baggies will be key in his early games.

Best stat…

20: Saido Berahino scored 20 goals in all competitions in 2014/15, 13 more than any other West Brom player. City, however, had three players reach double figures in the league alone, with Sergio Aguero (26), Yaya Touré (10) and David Silva (12)

Remember when…

In City’s meeting with West Brom last season at the Etihad, Gareth McAuley was sent off in a case of mistaken identity instead of fellow centre back Craig Dawson after 90 seconds. City went on to win 3-0.

Player to watch…

Rickie Lambert: The former Southampton man endured what was far from a dream season on Merseyside, but within hours of signing for West Brom netted a brace in a pre-season friendly. Should he be able to recapture his Southampton form, he could take away some of the goalscoring burden from Saido Berahino’s shoulders.

Past three-meetings…

Manchester City 3 (Bony, Fernando, Silva) West Brom 0, Premier League, March 2015

West Brom 1 (Ideye) Man City 3 (Fernando, Touré, Silva), Premier League, December 2014

Man City 3 (Zabaleta, Aguero, Demichelis) West Brom 1 (Dorrans), Premier League, April 2014

Form guide…

West Brom pre-season: LLWWWWL

Man City pre-season: WWDLWL
