From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Your support makes all the difference.West Bromwich Albion, rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, host Claude Puel’s Leicester City at the Hawthorns, with a win simply essential for Alan Pardew’s side on Saturday.
The Baggies are on a six-game losing streak across all competitions, and with Puel’s side having lost just twice in their last eight games, this game could prove to be a stretch too far for Pardew’s side as they look to dramatically escape the drop against all odds.
The West Brom defence will have to contain the in-form Jamie Vardy, who has 13 Premier League goals so far in this campaign, whilst Leicester could also welcome the return of Shinji Okazaki who has been out for four games with a knee injury.
Defeat in this game for Pardew’s side would all but confirm relegation to the Championship for 2018/19. They are currently seven points adrift, and victory is simply crucial for West Brom to have any chance at all of Premier League survival.
What time does it start?
West Bromwich Albion vs Leicester City kicks off at 15.00pm
Where can I watch it?
Highlights will be shown at 22.30pm on BBC1.
It’s a big game for…
Alan Pardew. It was widely reported that last weekend’s trip to Vicarage Road was Pardew’s last chance to save his job at the Hawthorns. A Troy Deeney winner condemned the Baggies to their sixth consecutive defeat across all competitions but still the former Palace boss remains in charge. Three points on Saturday may not be enough to save West Brom but it’ll help restore some degree of confidence at the club, and maybe keep Pardew in a job for a little longer.
