From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Premier League title looks to have slipped out of Arsenal's reach, as they have drifted to seven points behind leaders Manchester United. It was their third consecutive league draw, following a stalemate with Sunderland and a 2-2 against West Bromwich Albion.
The manager called for more from his squad over their final eight matches. "You could see that mentally the focus, the mental energy level was not good enough," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online. "You have to force the pace a bit more and show more determination to score a goal, and we couldn't. What we do is to first analyse what happened, why, and then prepare for the next game.
"I don't think you have to pick the players up – the players have to think about their performance, and me, too," he said. "We have to all together think about our performance and come back with something better than that."
Jens Lehmann has started legal proceedings against Tim Wiese of Werder Bremen following criticism from his fellow goalkeeper. Wiese said in September that Lehmann should "go to The Muppet Show" and ought to be treated "on a couch", in response to Lehmann criticising a performance of his. Lehmann, who returned to Arsenal last month, is claiming €20,000 (£17,600) for having his "personal rights violated".
The Arsenal captain, Cesc Fabregas, was unhurt after a minor car accident yesterday morning. The 23-year-old midfielder was involved in a collision as he drove to training but there was no serious damage and neither party required hospital treatment.
