From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael Carrick is another who has been ruled out with injury, so Louis van Gaal is forced into four changes ahead of the clash with the Hornets that could send United top of the league table with Arsenal, Manchester City and Leicester playing later in the day.
Phil Jones comes in for Marcos Rojo, meaning Ashley Young will switch to left-back, while Morgan Schneiderling replaces the injured Carrick alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in midfield. Ander Herrera comes in to replace Rooney as the central attacking midfield trio joined by Juan Mata and Jesse Ligard, while Depay gets the nod in attack.
On the substitutes’ bench, Van Gall names two academy players who could be handed their senior debuts as both midfielder Sean Goss and forward Marcus Rashford are included.
Watford will hope to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat by Leicester two weeks ago which came after promising back-to-back 2-0 wins over Stoke and West Ham.
Manager Quique Sanchez Flores makes just one change as Jose Manuel Jurado comes in for Nathan Ake, who drops to the bench.
