Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cesc Fabregas: The Spaniard cast an angsty, despondent figure from the bench against West Ham and rumours of his departure are beginning to swirl. Although he is expected to start against Watford, after performances last season that ranged from incompetent to downright comical, he will have to show his quality now rather than later if he wishes to remain at the club.
Best stat…
Watford have not recorded a victory over Chelsea since 1999.
Remember when…
Diego Costa and Juan Carlos Paredes had a bizarre pantomime fight at Vicarage Road last season.
Player to watch…
Michy Batshuayi: Last season’s Chelsea looked bereft up front, with Diego Costa channelling his inborn rage towards winding up the opposition rather than actually scoring goals. Batshuayi however, might well be the long-term answer to Drogba’s departure, a powerful and selfless player with the attributes to make him an effective lone striker.

Chelsea 2 (Costa x2) Watford 2 (Deeney penalty, Cahill OG), Premier League, December 2015
