Your support makes all the difference.John Terry hit out at Robbie Savage this morning after claiming that the Welshman “played at a really bad level” during his career and had no right to criticise him.
But was the Chelsea defender right in saying that Savage did not have a career to speak of and had achieved nothing?
He did make over 500 league appearances across the top three tiers of English football, including playing 300 Premier League games and winning the League Cup with Leicester City in 2000.
As well as this, he earned 39 caps for Wales before retiring from international football in September 2005 after a spat with then manager John Toshack.
In comparison to Terry, however, his one major trophy does not get close to the former England captain’s haul of four Premier League titles, eight domestic cups and the 2012 Champions League success.
After firing shots at Savage, Terry went on to say: “I’ll take it [criticism] all day long from the very best, the Rios, Carraghers and Neville. All day long I’ll take it. From other people? No.”
All three players won the Champions League in their careers and achieved enough in the 34-year-old's mind to speak negatively about his performances this season.
Neville and Ferdinand both won over 10 major trophies at Manchester United and Carragher won five domestic cups and two European cups, despite missing out on that elusive Premier League title.
Maybe Terry does have a point, but Savage is not the only one to have criticised him after his uncharacteristically poor start to the season and it does look again as though another Chelsea player is feeling the pressure during these tough times.
