Paulo Wanchope has completed his club record £3.65m move to Manchester City from West Ham. The Costa Rican international striker passed his medical yesterday and has signed a five-year contract.

Wanchope, 24, will report for training with his new team-mates this morning. The City chairman, David Bernstein, has no doubts that his new signing will do well for the club - "Paulo has strength, pace and quality and he should do the business for us," he said.

Wanchope opted for the Premiership new-boys after asking the club for 24 hours to talk the move over with his father. He was unsure about moving north after just 12 months in London, but the City manager, Joe Royle, managed to persuade him to do so.

The Manchester City striker Lee Peacock has agreed terms over a £600,000 move to Bristol City. The 23-year-old will be the third-biggest signing in the Robins' history behind Ade Akinbiyi (£1.2m) and Tony Thorpe (£1m).
